K2 Base Camp Trek

Trekking from Askole to K2 Base Camp via Concordia “the Heart of the Karakoram”.

The trek along the Baltoro Glacier to the famous Concordia Place, which was named by William Martin Conway during a Karakoram expedition in 1892, reminding him at the Konkordiaplatz in the Swiss Alps, from where three 8000 – peaks, K2, Broad Peak and Gasherbrum II, and six 7000 – peaks can be seen, is most spectacular.

After travelling from Islamabad to Skardu, by either road or air, you will have one day in Skardu to acclimatize and prepare for the trek. The following day you drive 7 hours by jeep through the beautiful Shigar Valley and along the Braldu River through rugged mountain scenery to Askole from where you will start trekking the following day.

Day 1: Islamabad to Skardu (2250m)
Morning transfer to the Airport and one-hour flight to Skardu, the Capital of Baltistan and gateway to the Karakoram. The flight itself is a fascinating experience as it passes over one of the most mountainous regions of the world. Upon arrival in Skardu, transfer to Hotel Masherbrum. After lunch visit Skardu town and bazaar. Meals and overnight stay at the hotel. (In case of non-availability of flight travel by road)

Day 2: Skardu
The morning is for trek preparations and a visit to the tourism office for the formal trekking briefing. After lunch visit Skardu bazaar & town and explore the area. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Skardu to Askoli (3000m / 7 spectacular hours drive by jeep)
In the morning you leave for Askoli by Jeep, where we will set-up camp for the night. Lunch will be en-route at Apo Ali Gond.

Day 4: Askoli to Jolla (3300m / 6 hours easy trekking)
You leave Askoli and say ”Good By” to the last village. On the way to to Jolla, you will cross the mighty Biafo Glacier, which is 37 miles long. After crossing the glacier you will have lunch at Korefong and continue trekking towards the Panma (Dumordo) river. After crossing the river by a rope bridge you will reach at Jolla where we will setup camp.

Day 5: Jolla to Payu (3450m / 5 ½ hours easy trekking)
After leaving the campsite behind you will follow the Braldo River until you reach Payu campsite, a lovely green oasis surrounded by towering mountain Peaks including Liligo (6386mts). From the camp you can see the moraine of the 63 km long Baltoro glacier. The Baltoro Glacier is one of the longest glaciers outside the polar region.

Day 6: Payu
Acclimatization & rest day.

Day 7: Payu to Urdocus (4050m /6 hours medium hard trekking)
Today’s trek will lead you across the famous Baltoro Glacier. En-route we will have a magnificent view of the Trango Tower Group(6237mts) to (6617mts.) the Paiju Group (6601mts). Lunch will be at Khoburtze. After lunch you will continue trekking at the right side of Baltoro Glacier. Dinner and overnight camp will be at Urdokas at a altitude of 4050 mts.

Day 8: Urdocus to Goro II (4380m / 6 hours hard trekking)
Leaving our lovely campsite behind you will continue trekking along the Baltoro Glacier. To our right we will see Yarmandu Glacier, which joins Baltoro Glacier at Byango, as well as Musherbrum Peak (7821mts). We will have lunch at Byango and then to continue along the Baltoro Glacier to Goro (4380mts) where we will set-up our camp for the night. From here we can see Mitre Peak (6025m) and Gasherbrum IV (7925mts). Overnight camping at Goro.

Day 9: Goro II to Concordia (4650m / 8 hours hard trekking)
Today we will trek to Concordia, to an altitude of 4720m. Concordia is the area that has the largest concentration of glaciers and peaks in the world, the heart6 of the Karakoram. From here you will have an overwhelming view of some of the worlds highest peaks, including K-2 (8611m), Broad Peak (8068m), Gasherbrum IV (7980m), Chogolisa 7664m) and others.

Day 10: Concordia
The day is free for rest and leisure to enjoy the surrounding view.

Day 11: Concordia to K-2 Base Camp and back to Concordia
Full day hike up to K-2 Base Camp via Broad Peak Base Camp and back to Concordia.

Day 12 to 17: Trek back to Askoli and Skardu following the same route.

Day 18: Flight Skardu to Islamabad / Road Skardu to Bisham
In the morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Islamabad.
In case of non-availability of flight due to bad weather, you will travel by road to Bisham following the Indus River. After 5 hours drive we’ll reach at Jaglot. From here we’ll drive along the famous Karakorum Highway, which is also known as the ancient Silk Route. Lunch will be en-route at Chilas. After lunch we will have a short photo stop at the ancient Buddhist Rock Carvings at Shatyal. Dinner and overnight stay at PTDC Motel in Bisham.

Day 19: Road Bisham to Islamabad / Islamabad
Enjoy one day shopping and sightseeing in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Road option: In the morning you will depart for Islamabad. Lunch will be en-route in Abbottabad. Dinner and an overnight stay at the Islamabad hotel.
